Maths curriculum statement

At Worlaby Academy, we strive to provide children with the knowledge, understanding and skills to apply their mathematical understanding in a variety of contexts, including real life situations. We believe that it is essential for students to identify how they can use their understanding in numerous ways, including within different subjects across school. We aim to promote Mathematics as an enjoyable and exciting subject that is essential for later life.

Using the concrete, pictorial and abstract approach within our teaching caters for all learning styles in each classroom. The visual and kinaesthetic learners have the chance to physically explore concepts whilst those who work most efficiently by listening have the chance to access new ideas also.

By accessing and building upon prior knowledge, we aim to provide the children with a secure, mastery understanding and challenge students to apply their knowledge in more complex contexts.

We intentionally include a variety of fluency, reasoning and problem-solving questions across the academy in our Maths lessons to equip our students with the knowledge and skills required to take Maths beyond the classroom.
